This guy. You see him in minivan ads. The metaphor for the emasculation that is required for buying the same car from 1991. Don't you know there's starving Appalachians who would be happy to be still driving a 91?
Yes, since 1991, FAW Volkswagen has been printing money in the shape of MK2 Jettas. They passed 2 million a while back, and still sell the crap out them.
Mostly for taxis, but the occasional dysfunctional family locks their keys out of the car in busy intersections and stare.
I wonder if it's any good. Just looks like one, folds up like a stale noodle. You'd think Wal-Mort would be trying to import these to Sam's Club.
Note he has already destroyed his family line by choosing a girl for their designated child.
And they aren't all going to fit in there. Somebody is going in the trunk.
Abridged edition: Why a rabid MK2 Jetta owner such as myself can't get one
According to the government, a full series of emissions and crash-testing would have to apply to importing the vehicle. Hint: A motor-less vehicle is sometimes not considered a vehicle. I think a replacement for the 1.6 can be found.
VW would have a schadenfume over that. Probably part of the agreement when they sold them all the equipment in 91. Back then, it was a clone.
If you can get a real gearhead patent lawyer on the case to prove that the 1991 government specs apply to the Chinese-spec version (probably by importing a 1992 and a 2014) then bob's your uncle.
For your own car, anyway. Try starting a 'Jetta Mark2' dealership, though..
Then you get to fight VW, who's just set to employ thousands of Tennessee auto workers making Jettas for the world. Probably will make you remove every VW logo off of the car.
It seems like you could get a whole fleet of worn out taxis, separate the motor assemblies for another container, then start unbolting the things into segments. Cut em up if need be. RollGolf proves they can be put back together.
The basic problem is that with over 2 million of these things in China, their market is right there. No need to discount shipping or other ways of getting the US cheap stuff. This is their bread and butter transport.
"FAW Volkswagen Jetta " is your magic search term. with that, you can go through the temporal rabbit hole and find parts that might fit your ancient German Jetta.
Example: a $19.95 o2 sensor is OEM, imported from Germany.
Free shipping. how does that work?

I would totally drive that.. honestly the early Jettas are my favorite looking Jettas. I love boxy cars. I love square wagons (like the older Volvo V70) and boxy sedans (like the old 240 and Jetta). And for only $15,000, where can I get one?

Little Girl: "This mirror has a terrible blind spot."
Handsome Announcer: "Thanks little chinese girl. It's economical child engineers that makes VW a competitive automotive company in 1991. Have you driven a 1991 Volkswagen Jetta that seats five? Well why not try it again? Volkswagen moving...forward...or some other direction."

There are plenty of cars from 1991 that I would rock:
But yeah, a MK2 Jetta is not one of them.
